As you will have seen, National Grid and Verizon are continuing their make-ready work on the existing utility poles in New Salem. Crews have been replacing poles and moving lines on poles to make room for our fiber. The utilities have also had crews trimming trees around lines and poles. In addition, tree crews have been working to prepare a path for the fiber between our newly set town-owned poles. To the crews’ credit, they have been persevering in their work despite some truly frightful temperatures! Attached is photographic evidence from Chief Camden of their efforts and working conditions, and yes, that thermometer says -6 degrees!

New Salem is getting an added benefit from this work in that the town’s utility infrastructure is getting a “tune-up” with the utilities addressing some long-standing pole, line, and tree maintenance issues. Here’s to fewer power outages (knock on wood and fingers crossed)!
