We are pleased to announce that the following factors allow us to extend the initial sign up period to Nov. 30th.

● The passage of the Debt Exclusion election on October 29th by a vote of 213-6. This not only assured sufficient funds to complete our project but also showed strong support for this undertaking. Thank you to the voters of New Salem!

● The tremendous response to our sign-up campaign, with 333 households already subscribed!

● The state’s announcement that it will partially reimburse the New Salem MLP for home installations for our subscribers.

Our build is currently on schedule, and we anticipate home installations to begin before the end of the year and continue on a rolling basis over several months. The network construction is progressing nicely with over 34 miles of strand run on the poles along the roads, over 14 miles of distribution fiber installed and lashed to the strand, the placement of electronics on lines begun, and most of the racking and electronics now installed in our network hut!

If you have not yet signed-up, keep in mind that we will only be doing free standard installations to homes that have signed up for service. Installations without our subsidy are very costly, ranging from $600-$3000 per house during our build, to approximately double those amounts after the build when they will be the responsibility of the homeowner should they decide at a later time to take service.

More educational updates will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, you can find information at broadbandnewsalem. We are also continuing our in-person help on Tuesdays, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm through the end of November at the Library.

Thank you to all of you who have supported the project by signing up and voting!
